the St. Louis Blues trades:

Brendan Bell (D) - $0,700,000 (2010 UFA)
Tomas Kana (C) - $0,710,000 (2010 RFA)

to the Columbus Blue Jackets for:

Pascal Pelletier (C/W) - $0,550,000 (2010 UFA)

Andy's analysis:
Not the block buster type of a deal. 26-year old Pascal Pelletier has played 13 NHL games with Boston and Chicago but looks like a career AHL'er. 22-year old Tomas Kana is currently in the ECHL and hasn't been close living up to his draft position yet. He was a 2nd round pick (#31 overall) in 2006. 23-year old defenseman Brendan Bell has 101 NHL games under his belt already and will see time in the NHL again. He's the only one with the potential of being a regular in the NHL among these three at this point in their careers.

the Washington Capitals claims:

Chris Bourque (LW) - $0,577,500 (2010 RFA)

off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Andy's analysis:
The Capitals bring Chris Bourque back on waivers, the team who drafted him in the 2nd round, #33 overall in 2004. This 23-year old has put up huge numbers in the AHL, but hasn't been able to translate it to the NHL level yet. He has played 20 games with the Penguins this season, recording 3 assists. He has some offensive upside, but his small stature is a concern.

the Toronto Maple Leafs trades:

Jiri Tlusty (C) - $0,855,000 (2010 RFA)

to the Carolina Hurricanes for:

the rights of Philippe Paradis (C)

Andy's analysis:
This is certainly a trade where only time will tell. Philippe Paradis was drafted in the first round this summer, 27th overall by the Hurricanes. However, even though Jiri Tlusty hasn't impressed in the NHL to this point, he was considered a better prospect at the time he was drafted. Tlusty is still only 21 years of age, he has lots of time to develop.

December 2, 2009

the Montreal Canadiens trades:

Kyle Chipchura (C/LW) - $0,500,000 (2010 RFA)

to the Anaheim Ducks for:

a conditional 4th round pick in 2011

Andy's analysis:
The Ducks acquire Kyle Chipchura, who was a 1st round pick in 2004. While he isn't as promising as back then, he could still develop into a good checking line center. The 23-year old is off a bad start this season and maybe a change of enviroment will do him good

the New York Rangers claims:

Erik Christensen (C/LW) - $0,750,000 (2010 RFA)

off waivers from the Anaheim Ducks.

Andy's analysis:
The 26-year old center was quite promising his first couple of years in the league. But he hasn't been able to get his game together the last couple of years. If the Rangers can make him reach his potential his hands and passing skills could come in handy. A low risk move by the Rangers who could turn out quite decent for them. Nothing to lose here.
